…that salmon glow
Microneedling has been a part of my skin care and beauty maintenance routine for a little over two years. I’ve seen such an improvement in removing acne scars over time, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and rosacea. Collagen induction therapy (microneedling) is a minimally invasive procedure that creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin. The micro injuries trigger the body’s natural healing process and leads to an increased production of collagen and elastin - both are proteins that work together to provide skin structure and elasticity. The key to maintaining healthy and youthful skin. After our mid 20s collagen production decreases about 1% per year.
After my 7 initial treatments over two years ago, I transitioned into maintenance with 1-3 treatments/year. I’ve heard about salmon dna and microneedling prp (platlet rich plasma) but I’ll admit I like to take my time when introducing new therapies to my skin. My esthetician never pressures me which I’m so grateful for. After reading about Salmon PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide, my biology degree was never a waste LOL) on a few dermatologist ran blogs I thought I would take the chance this month and try it and I am so impressed with the results. Now I wouldn’t recommend trying it for your very first microneedling procedure simply due to having to get used to the post healing process. However if you are currently in maintenance for microneedling I would definitely recommend this at least 1-2 times a year. Salmon PDRN has both regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties. Combining both microneedling and Salmon PDRN refines skin texture, enhances hydration, and has anti-aging benefits.
I did peel more than usual when the Toskani Lumicen was applied post microneedling, and per my esthetician’s instructions I did need to leave it on for at minimum 6-8 hours if I could. Outside of the additional peeling and a little bit of a smoky meat smell (It wasn’t that bad I promise!), I noticed I didn’t have has much soreness the following morning although I did have about normal redness. However, I loved the additional calmness of my skin while healing which can be attributed to the regenerative DNA Properties.
This is not the procedure though to run errands right after (if you don’t have to) unless you want a lot of unnecessary stares in Public; I know I don’t. I saw the results in less than two weeks. I had a Friendsgiving event to attend and I was able to apply minimal makeup and the application process was so seamless. And I only wore a skin tint which was a plus.
As someone who is not in a rush to jump to filler or botox yet (no shame at all to those who do) I’m always on the look out on what to do enhance the longevity of my skin’s elasticity whether it’s products or minimally invasive procedures with little to no down time. Happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments or via email.
