hike to reset
Given that I grew up in the midwest and now live in the southeast I’ve developed an affinity for the desert over the years. I am very much an earth sign; so it’s befitting. A change in scenery is always welcomed so I was grateful that I was able to visit Arizona for the first time in September. After landing and picking up a rental car- the road trip took me to Page, Lake Powell, The Grand Canyon, Sedona, and a little bit of Phoenix/Scottsdale. Side note—thank you to the real travel bloggers still out there. Arizona has been trending quite a bit on the clock app this year and I did not see one video that explained how far Page and Sedona were from Phoenix/Scottsdale. Luckily I did deep research as always via pinterest blogs and youtube as a September Virgo would.
Arizona has been on my list of places to visit ever since I saw the Film Waiting to Exhale as a teen. I was in complete awe of the nature backdrop that Arizona provided for the movie.
Boynton Canyon in Sedona was closest to our resort and I read about the different energy vortex’s that have been reported there. Energy vortex’s are thought to be swirling centers of the earth’s energy emanating all around us. Our Resort actually had a seminar for guests to attend to learn more about vortex’s, but after further research I found out that was leading too close into pseudoscience territory. But I can always appreciate humans attaching spiritual meanings to the gift of nature.
Reaching the top of the Vortex honestly felt so fulfilling. I’m not an experienced hiker by any means but while this trail was a little bit more advanced than what I’ve normally done in the past, the feeling at the top was unique. I felt a deep sense of contentment that I don’t think anything material would have brought me. Witnessing the top of the Boynton Canyon vortex reminded me that there will always be new sights to see outside of what I believe is possible. As long as I am willing to keep moving.
Sedona has over 200 trails alone and the rock formation there has taken over 300 million years to develop. Ultimately, I walked away with a deeper perspective on time and creation; there is unfound beauty evolving daily even if we don’t notice it. But when we get the chance to, sit with it and hold it close.
